Place Ducale is the main square of Charleville-Mezieres. Built in 1606 by Clement Métezeau, it is also the twin sister of the Place des Vosges in Paris.
Thanks to the financial effort of Charles de Gonzague, nephew of Henry IV, Duke of Nevers and the Duke of Rethel, governor of Champagne, the place was born. Place Ducale is a rectangle of 127 meters long and 90 meters wide, with 27 pavilions style Henri IV and Louis XIII.
